Why does the public so far apparently not perceive that even young people already suffer from Parkinson’s disease?
Parkinson’s disease is characterized by ON and OFF states that change several times a day. In the OFF state, we are stiff and immobile. In this state we are personally invisible, because we usually do not let ourselves be seen in public in the OFF state.
when you’re on, and you’re really on, it can be invisible, and that may be a part of the barrier too. The people assume: there is no disability, or if you’re older: that it’s just slowing down and so. having that diverse representation of Parkinson’s, which we see coming out, and drawings that look different than the classic stooped older man, and things lik that may be important too, so those people will know that what they’re seeing is Parkinson’s.
