The next World Parkinson Coalition (WPC) event that you can sign up for is the talk by Heidi McBride, PhD that is happening in November!

WPC Research Spotlight: Promise and Power of Collaboration
Nov 15, 2021 | 11:00 ET, 16:00 GMT, 17:00 CET | Online

You can join the event to hear Professor Heid McBride (McGill University) discussing the challenges of studying Parkinson’s disease (PD) across scales (molecules to cell biology to tissues and interconnectiveness of disease progression). The talk will include some personal aspects of her family experience with PD, plus the roadblocks that are in place due to the culture of science. To register, click the visual below or go here.

Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Parkinson’s Research and Care

In a position paper published in JPD, The Michael J. Fox Foundation outlines plans to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in PD research to accurately reflect the PD population. “The current picture of PD has been assembled from a relatively homogenous population, and data remain sparse or are non-existent on many traditionally underrepresented groups: Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous groups, LGBTQ+, and individuals of lower socioeconomic status,” explained Bernadette Siddiqi, MA, Senior Associate Director, Research Engagement, and Andrew Koemeter-Cox, PhD, Senior Associate Director, Research Programs of The Michael J. Fox Foundation, New York, NY, USA. “Without these data, it is impossible to fully comprehend the breadth and depth of PD across the entire population.”
