HELP TRAIN GOOGLE AI TO UNDERSTAND VOICES AFFECTED BY PARKINSON’S
Has Parkinson’s weakened, changed, or silenced your voice? New PD Avenger partner LSVT Global has partnered with Google AI for „Project Euphonia.“ The project is helping to train automatic speech recognition software to better understand what people with Parkinson’s and other neurologically caused speech issues.
They are currently seeking people with PD to record samples of their speech in an effort to improve devices like Siri and Alexa to recognize unique speech patterns that can occur due to the disease.

***The more impaired your speech is the better it is for the project as it helps challenge the AI. This project is open globally to readers of English, even if you have a strong accent on top of Parkinson‘ s voice affects.
In Canada, a federal election has been called for September 20, 2021. Parkinson Canada is asking its members and supporters of the Canadian Parkinson’s community to reach out to electoral candidates to prioritize Parkinson’s disease. They cite long wait times (one in five people wait more than a year to receive a diagnosis), a shortage of Movement Disorder Specialists and the lack of a consistent approach to care across the country as issues that need to be addressed.
You can raise your voice by using their election advocacy tools and templates to send an email directly to your candidates, sign a petition or engage with them on twitter using the hashtag #PrioritizePD. The Parkinson Canada election homepage is linked here. Tools to contact local candidates are here.
Parkinson Canada also has prepared a Federal Election Toolkit . This provides Canadians with a step-by-step guide on how to effectively engage with elected officials and candidates. It does so by providing in-depth resources that contain key information and data on Parkinson’s and the current state of healthcare in Canada along with suggestions of strategic asks that you can make.
No matter what, Parkinson Canada is committed to raising the voices if those affected by Parkinson’s – let’s support our community!
